Description

Oil painting, collage, and acrylic. My work prioritizes the use of color, the balance of composition, and the pursuit of harmony. I received classical training in drawing, painting, art history, and theory. My first “inspirations” are Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and Cubist: Seurat, Cézanne, Picasso, Juan Gris, and Matisse. Like Matisse, I too dream of “an art of balance, of purity, of tranquility, without troubling or disturbing subjects…” I have explored other techniques such as engraving and screen printing, but I always return to painting. Recurring subjects like the sea and origami characters, such as “la pajarita” and “el barquito de papel,” appear in my landscapes and still lifes. They first appeared in my paintings over 20 years ago. Childhood memories that resurfaced, they have become symbols of joy, childhood, and also fragility for me.
