Description
Laurent Poisson lives and works in Brussels. His work draws inspiration from both art history and the reality that surrounds him. It is important to him, through his paintings and drawings, to weave connections between what constitutes today’s world and a past common to all humans. The art of the past and the great masters of painting are for him an inexhaustible source of inspiration, while he draws daily from images of contemporary culture and the places he frequents. This encounter between eras inspires a sense of humility and rekindles an awareness of the vastness of a past in contrast to the recent history of the contemporary era. Laurent confronts his imagination with his sense of observation to create unique images with multiple references that reveal his poetic relationship to reality.

Biography
Graduated with a Master’s degree in Visual Arts and Space in the Drawing section of La Cambre School, I have continued to develop and enrich my artistic practice in my studio and through various exhibitions and residencies. Notably, I received the Carrefour des Arts grant in Brussels in 2018 and exhibited in various venues in the capital, such as La Vallée (2019) and the Vanderborght space (2022). My journey has also taken me twice to Argentina, in artist residency at Zona Imaginaria in Buenos Aires (2019/2021), where I had the opportunity to deepen and expand my practice of drawing, painting, and color. This experience allowed me to meet and discover the contemporary Argentine art scene. I also had the opportunity to exhibit my work outside the Belgian capital, notably at the Queer Art Festival in Antwerp in 2022, as well as in France, at La Maison de la Culture in Nevers in 2024.
